Plugin air fresheners harm to jack Russell terriers and other small dogs.

I went upstairs with Ruby my miniature Jack Russell terrier puppy and she started sneezing and snuffling.

I looke.d around to see what could be causing it   It was my plugin air freshener just about nose height!!!!.

It was things like this that made me start this site.  I knew things would be different for a smaller dog but just couldn’t find the info l wanted.

Anyway when l came downstairs l search on the internet and found this…..Gosh.  Plugins and small dogs are a no no

Plug-in air fresheners can be particularly bad for small dogs because they emit toxic chemicals and strong fragrances that can cause respiratory problems, organ damage, and neurological issues. Small dogs are more vulnerable due to their smaller body size and respiratory systems, and because they spend more time near the floor where heavier-than-air pollutants concentrate.

Toxic Ingredients: Many plug-in air fresheners contain harmful chemicals such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) (including formaldehyde, benzene, and ethanol), phthalates, and synthetic fragrances. These substances are linked to various health issues in both humans and pets, including cancer and damage to the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system.

• Heightened Sensitivity: Dogs have a much more acute sense of smell than humans, so the strong, continuous scents from a plug-in can be overpowering and distressing for them.

• Increased Exposure: Due to their smaller stature, small dogs are more likely to inhale concentrated amounts of airborne chemicals that tend to sink toward the floor. They also may ingest these pollutants when the particles settle on their fur and they groom themselves.
• Ingestion Risk: Curious pets, especially small ones, might chew on or lick the plug-in device, leading to a higher risk of ingesting the toxic liquid or solid contents, which can cause severe gastrointestinal distress or poisoning.

I forget to add something l didn’t realise till l got my own miniature Jack Russell pup. Most plugins are head height to a small dog so the ingredients are much more intense on a tiny pair of lungs
